ISWAP publishes gory images, chats of slain army general

ISWAP has published censored images and WhatsApp chats of slain Brigadier General Musa Uba in its latest Al-Naba newspaper issue.

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has released graphic images and screenshots of WhatsApp conversations belonging to Brigadier General Musa Uba, who was killed during an ambush in Borno state. The details emerged in Issue 522 of Al-Naba, the group’s Arabic language newspaper, according to a report from THECABLE.

Uba was killed on November 18 after ISWAP fighters ambushed a military convoy transporting equipment along Damboa Road, near Wajiroko in Borno. The attack targeted soldiers and operatives of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF). The publication, as seen by FIJ, displayed censored photos showing the general’s lifeless body with a bullet wound on his leg and blood near his head.

The eight-page edition of Al-Naba also highlighted recent attacks carried out by ISWAP and other Islamic State affiliates across the world. In addition to publishing the images, the group circulated screenshots of the general’s WhatsApp chats.

ISWAP further claimed responsibility for an assault on the Damboa Brigade Headquarters on Tuesday. The newspaper also included images of a beheading in Gorobatcha, another community in Borno state, underscoring the group’s continued violent operations in the region.

The publication adds to growing concerns about ISWAP’s propaganda efforts and the intensifying security challenges facing Nigeria’s northeast.
