Grammy-nominated singer Akon was arrested in suburban Atlanta for failing to appear in court over a suspended driver’s license but was released after posting bail.
According to a report from TRIBUNE ONLINE, Grammy-nominated artiste Aliaune Damala Badara Akom Thiam, popularly known as Akon, was arrested last week in suburban Atlanta, Georgia, after failing to appear in court for a traffic ticket related to driving with a suspended license.
Police in Chamblee arrested the 52-year-old singer on Friday after receiving a wanted person alert for a white Tesla Cybertruck registered in his name. He was taken to DeKalb County jail before being transferred to Roswell police, who booked him into another facility. Akon later posted bail and was released the same day.
The Roswell police report revealed the warrant stemmed from a September 10 incident when officers found Akon’s disabled Cybertruck on a busy street. A license check showed he had no valid insurance and a suspended driver’s license for missing a prior court appearance in 2023. His vehicle was impounded, and he was cited accordingly.
Chamblee police located him at a business called Tint World after a traffic camera flagged his vehicle. Officers said he was calm and aware of the warrant. No weapons or contraband were found.
