NCAA confirmed a Delta Air Lines Lagos-Atlanta flight diverted to Accra after an oven fire, with passengers rebooked on alternative flights.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has confirmed that a Delta Air Lines flight from Lagos to Atlanta was forced to make an emergency diversion to Accra, Ghana, after a fire incident in the aircraft’s oven.
NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, disclosed this Tuesday on X. He explained that although the fire was contained, the flight crew had exceeded their rest limits, preventing the journey from continuing.
“By the time the issue was resolved, the flight crew had exceeded their rest time limits, making it impossible to continue,” he said.
Some passengers were rebooked on Delta’s Accra-New York flight the same evening and others the following day. Flight DL055 finally departed from Accra on Thursday, September 25, at 12:00hrs.
Achimugu also confirmed that Delta’s Atlanta-Lagos flight scheduled for September 25 was cancelled, with affected passengers rebooked on Air France, British Airways, KLM, and Lufthansa, while others will depart Friday.
