DHQ has launched an investigation into the Kaduna DICON explosion that killed one and injured several, assuring residents of safety.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has ordered a full-scale investigation into Saturday’s explosion at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) in Kaduna, which killed one person and injured several others.
Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery. A statement from the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, said the situation was under control and assured residents that there was “no cause for panic.”
DICON, in a separate statement signed by its spokesperson, Maria Sambo, confirmed that the blast occurred around 10 a.m. at its Ordnance Factory Disposal Pit while specialists were destroying expired materials, including propellants, primer caps, and other explosives. The corporation said the explosion happened despite ongoing controlled disposal efforts that began in July.
The body of the deceased has been deposited in the mortuary, while the injured staff are receiving treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.
Witnesses said the blast shook several parts of Kaduna South and Chikun LGAs, sparking panic before officials reassured residents of safety.
