ICC prosecutor Karim Khan faces a second misconduct probe over alleged improper talks with a judge in a war crimes case.
The International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor, Karim Khan KC, is facing a second misconduct investigation over allegations that he held improper discussions with a judge in a war crimes case.
According to sources, the probe led by the court’s Independent Oversight Mechanism, centres on claims that Mr Khan met Judge Rosario Aitala in secret while prosecuting the case of Central African Republic militia leader Maxime Mokom, before unexpectedly dropping charges in October 2023. “These discussions were not allowed and the other judges didn’t know they were happening,” a source told The Mail on Sunday.
Mr Khan, who denies the allegations, is already under separate investigation over multiple sexual misconduct claims, which he also rejects as “categorically untrue.” Lawyers for Mr Khan described the new accusations as “baseless.”
The ICC said it could not comment on an ongoing independent investigation.
