‘Obi of Lagos’: Igbo Ezes, leaders say Azubike not recognised

Igbo traditional rulers and leaders from 12 South-West and South-South states have disowned Mr. Chibuike Azubike, who recently claimed the title of “Obi Ndigbo Lagos” and announced plans for an Ofala festival on September 13.

Igbo traditional rulers and leaders from 12 states outside Igbo land have rejected Mr. Chibuike Azubike’s claim to the title of “Obi Ndigbo Lagos.” Speaking under the Association of Ezendigbo Na Uzoije, Southern Zone, they said Azubike is not a member and does not represent the Igbo community in Lagos.

In a statement, Eze John Ezebuadi, President of the association, urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, and the public to disregard Azubike’s claims, including his ₦1.5 billion fundraising project.

“We categorically state that Mr. Azubike is neither a member of our Association nor does he represent Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State. His claims are baseless,” the communiqué read.

The leaders described his Ofala festival plans as misleading and damaging, vowing to safeguard Igbo cultural integrity in Lagos.
