YouTube TV and Fox are locked in a contract dispute that could see subscribers lose key channels, including sports coverage.
Millions of YouTube TV subscribers may soon lose access to Fox channels, including Fox Sports, News, and Business, if the companies fail to renew their carriage agreement by Wednesday’s 5 p.m. ET deadline. The dispute threatens to disrupt coverage of Week 1 college football and other major programming.
YouTube TV accused Fox of “asking for payments that are far higher than what partners with comparable content offerings receive,” stressing it seeks a “fair” deal without raising subscriber costs. The platform, which charges $82.99 a month, pledged a $10 credit if Fox channels are dropped for an extended period.
Fox countered Wednesday, saying it was “disappointed that Google continually exploits its outsized influence by proposing terms that are out of step with the marketplace.”
FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr urged Google to finalize an agreement, warning, “Google removing Fox channels from YouTube TV would be a terrible outcome.”
