Tambuwal leaves EFCC custody after two days

Tambuwal, detained on Monday at the commission’s Jabi, Abuja headquarters over alleged withdrawal of N189 billion during his tenure, avoided a second night in EFCC custody.

Former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has been released on administrative bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Tambuwal, detained on Monday at the commission’s Jabi, Abuja headquarters over alleged withdrawal of N189 billion during his tenure, avoided a second night in EFCC custody. He had arrived at 11:16 a.m. on Monday in response to an invitation but was held after reportedly failing to satisfactorily answer investigators’ questions.

A senior EFCC official told The Guardian that Tambuwal was freed after “interrogators extracted what they needed from him.”

EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed: “Yes! Yes!! He has been released after perfecting his bail condition.”

The high-profile interrogation comes amid heightened political tensions over corruption probes involving opposition figures.
