According to police spokesperson Josephine Adeh, the incident began when their father, Mr. Innocent, reported that 16-year-old Leadway had gone missing after leaving home to sit for an exam in Karu.
Two sisters, Leadway and Joy Innocent, have been arrested by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command for faking a kidnapping to extort N5 million from their father.
According to police spokesperson Josephine Adeh, the incident began when their father, Mr. Innocent, reported that 16-year-old Leadway had gone missing after leaving home to sit for an exam in Karu. He later received a ransom call.
“Through coordinated intelligence gathering and digital tracking, the phone number used was traced to a residence in Jikwoyi Phase II,” Adeh said.
Police found Leadway with a woman, Mrs. Tina Mayowa, and observed no signs of distress. Investigations revealed Joy Innocent conspired with her boyfriend, Mayowa Adedeji, to stage the abduction, with Leadway’s full cooperation.
“She willingly stayed with the suspects throughout her alleged abduction,” Adeh confirmed.
FCT Police Commissioner, CP Ajao Adewale, described the act as “betrayal and manipulation” and urged parents to maintain open communication with their children. All four suspects confessed and remain in custody.
