Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, sparked outrage on Monday after threatening to kill a social media user and their family in a now-deleted post on X. The incident followed a controversial tweet by Hadiza El-Rufai, former Kaduna First Lady, who defended Nigerian-Americans, particularly the Igbo, amid U.S. travel bans. “A great percentage of these Nigerian Americans making us proud abroad are Igbos,” she wrote.
Following backlash, she added, “No cyberbully can take away my right to express my opinion.”
In response, an X user replied, “You no go die well ma,” prompting Bashir to tweet: “If you ever utter that phrase to my mother again… I am going to find you (it’s easier than you think) & unalive you and your family.”
Bashir did not respond to Peoples Gazette’s request for comment. He previously posted inflammatory remarks, including justifying violence in Southern Kaduna and mocking the disappearance of critic Abubakar ‘Dadiyatta’ Idris.
