SHOCK POLL: Americans spend nearly half their day online …

The poll of 2,000 U.S. adults with home internet, held from May 6 to 14, revealed that individuals average more than 10 hours per day on the web.

Americans are spending nearly half their day online, with time almost evenly split between streaming videos and engaging in daily digital tasks, according to a new survey conducted by Optimum. The poll of 2,000 U.S. adults with home internet, held from May 6 to 14, revealed that individuals average more than 10 hours per day on the web.

“This new survey was eye-opening,” said Eric Bruno, senior vice president of product management at Optimum. “We were amazed to see how many hours folks are watching, shopping and browsing online on a daily basis.”

Users typically spend 5.4 hours browsing, emailing, gaming, or working, and about five hours streaming video or TV. Television is the preferred streaming device (55%), followed by mobile phones (20%) and computers/tablets (25%).

Additionally, 80% of users browse or pay bills online, 73% use social media, 72% shop online, 37% work digitally, and 20% complete school assignments. Bruno noted the findings underscore the importance of reliable and affordable internet.
