Liverpool have reportedly sealed an agreement to sign Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike in a deal worth an initial £69 million ($92 million).
The Premier League champions turned their attention to the 23-year-old French striker after Newcastle United refused to part with Sweden’s Alexander Isak, valued at £150 million. Newcastle and Manchester United were also keen on Ekitike, but the Reds appear to have won the race. The deal could rise to £79 million with add-ons. Ekitike netted 22 goals in 48 games for Frankfurt last season after moving from Paris Saint-Germain.
He was an unused substitute in Frankfurt’s recent friendly, with coach Dino Toppmoller calling his exit “a bitter loss”. Ekitike will join Arne Slot’s squad for their pre-season tour of Asia once the transfer is finalised. Liverpool are reshaping their attack following Diogo Jota’s tragic death in Spain, with Darwin Nunez reportedly up for sale and Bayern Munich targeting Luis Diaz.
