Manchester, July 16, 2025 – Manchester United have isolated five first-team players—Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia, Jadon Sancho, and Antony—as part of a so-called “bomb squad” after boss Ruben Amorim excluded them from pre-season training on July 4. The group is now only allowed Carrington access, away from the main squad, while they seek transfers.
Rashford, aged 27, has declined to accept exile despite offering “100 percent” ahead of the season, but with his £300,000-a-week salary and contract through 2028, no club has seriously emerged. Barcelona’s interest remains unpursued.
Garnacho, 20, stirred frustration after posting an Aston Villa shirt bearing Rashford’s name. While Villa and Atlético Madrid have enquired, no deal has advanced.
Malacia has attracted little interest post-PSV loan. Sancho saw Chelsea decline a £25 m option, Juventus is negotiating possibly around £13 m, and he’s reportedly open to an €8 m-per-year contract. Antony, who described hitting “rock bottom”, is wanted on loan by Real Betis, though talks have stalled and United want a sale.
