What many Nigerians may not know is that without the Awujale’s pivotal intervention, the APC might not have emerged as a political party.
The Serving Overseer of Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has paid tribute to the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, describing him as “a patriot, mentor and elder statesman.” Adetona passed on July 13, 2025 — a date Bakare noted as personally and nationally significant.
“What many Nigerians may not know is that without the Awujale’s pivotal intervention, the APC might not have emerged as a political party,” Bakare said. He recounted how the monarch brokered talks between the CPC and ACN after the 2011 elections.
Bakare recalled a dramatic crusade encounter in Ijebu Ode, praising the monarch’s open-mindedness and support for truth. He described their bond as deeply personal, noting, “Kabiyesi fondly called me ‘The Great Pastor.’”
He praised Oba Adetona’s legacy in education and Yoruba culture. “May the noble soul of Kabiyesi rest in perfect peace,” he concluded.
