Dealers will inspect affected vehicles and repair or replace the engine free of charge.
Nissan is recalling more than 480,000 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada due to a defect that may lead to engine failure, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced Thursday.
The recall affects certain 2021–2024 Nissan Rogue models, 2019–2020 Altimas, and 2019–2022 Infiniti QX50s and 2022 QX55s. These vehicles are equipped with specific “VC-Turbo” engines that may contain defective bearings, which could cause engine damage and increase the risk of crashes.
“Engine bearing failures are not typically instantaneous and tend to progress over time,” the NHTSA report stated. Warning signs include unusual noises or dashboard warning lights.
In the U.S., 443,899 vehicles are impacted, and 37,837 in Canada, Nissan confirmed to the Associated Press.
Dealers will inspect affected vehicles and repair or replace the engine free of charge. Nissan said the recall reflects its “ongoing commitment to customer safety.” Notification letters will be sent to owners by late August.
