“If Labour performs badly in next May’s elections across Wales, Scotland and London, it could mark the end of his time in Downing Street,” Coates reported.
Two senior Labour MPs have warned that Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer may be forced out within months if the party continues to struggle.
According to Sky News deputy political editor Sam Coates, a government minister and a prominent MP said Starmer has been “put on notice,” as discontent grows over Labour’s performance.
“If Labour performs badly in next May’s elections across Wales, Scotland and London, it could mark the end of his time in Downing Street,” Coates reported.
The turmoil comes after Chancellor Rachel Reeves was seen in tears during Prime Minister’s Questions. Sir Keir insisted Reeves’s upset was due to a “personal matter,” not the backlash over a controversial welfare bill that passed despite a major Labour rebellion.
“She is going absolutely nowhere,” a senior figure said, affirming Reeves’s position.
Starmer told the BBC Reeves would remain in post “for a very long time,” describing their partnership as being “in lockstep.”
