A 999 call made on November 18 revealed Methven claimed a psychotic break induced by steroids, cocaine, and alcohol. “I just want to go to jail,” he told police.
Ewan Methven, 27, has pleaded guilty to the murder and decapitation of his girlfriend, Phoenix Spencer-Horn, 21, at their home in East Kilbride.
The incident occurred on November 16, 2024, after the couple ordered a takeaway. Prosecutor Christopher McKenna said, “The accused murdered his girlfriend… he strangled her and stabbed her.” Her mutilated body was found on November 18.
Methven used her phone to text her mother, pretending Phoenix was asleep. He also browsed pornography and sought drugs over the weekend. A 999 call made on November 18 revealed Methven claimed a psychotic break induced by steroids, cocaine, and alcohol. “I just want to go to jail,” he told police.
A post-mortem found the cause of death to be a stab wound to the chest. Defence lawyer Tony Graham KC said, “He can’t provide an explanation.” Judge Lord Matthews said, “You pleaded guilty to an appalling crime.” Sentencing is set for July 14.
