“No king lasts forever”: Suspended Rivers Gov Fubara vows victory amid suspension

“Some people accused me about a lot of things but the truth about it is that I can’t be what I’m not or who I am. “

Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has defiantly proclaimed that “no king lasts forever” while assuring supporters of his eventual political restoration. Speaking at a gathering in Bonny during the 60th birthday thanksgiving of the local monarch, Fubara insisted he has “never considered [himself] losing anything” despite his six-month suspension under President Bola Tinubu’s state of emergency declaration in March. He framed his struggle as divinely sanctioned, stating: “God has kept me standing… I know that at the end of the day, our winning will come to us because we are standing on a solid rock” .

Addressing critics of his governance style, Fubara emphasized moral conviction over popularity: “Everybody will not appreciate your style… in 25 to 30 years, if placed in any box… you can defend your action, that’s what makes you a man.” He dismissed accusations against him as baseless, asserting: “I can’t be what I’m not,” while urging supporters to embrace resilience: “At times, you need to lose to win” 13. His remarks subtly targeted predecessor Nyesom Wike—now FCT Minister—whose feud with Fubara triggered the crisis.
