State media reported the launch of over 100 unmanned aerial vehicles targeting locations within Israeli territory.
Tensions in the Middle East surged Thursday after Israel launched a major air offensive targeting Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure. Israeli officials confirmed over 200 fighter jets were involved in a “multi-phased campaign” hitting more than 100 strategic sites, including nuclear facilities and military command centers.
Among those feared killed is Major General Hossein Salami, head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, alongside other top commanders and nuclear scientists. Military spokesperson Effie Defrin said the strikes were “executed with precision across a broad range of military and nuclear-linked installations.”
In response, Iran launched more than 100 drones toward Israel. “Our air defence networks are actively engaged in intercepting the incoming threats,” Defrin added. Iran’s military declared on X: “This is not a symbolic response nor a display of strength. Our retaliation will be decisive and deadly.” The U.S. distanced itself, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio stating, “The United States was neither involved in nor consulted.”
