Olu of Epe, Oba Adewale, dies at 86

The 19th ruler of Epe will be laid to rest today in accordance with Islamic rites.

The Olu of Epe Kingdom, Oba Shefiu Olatunji Adewale, has passed away at the age of 86. The revered monarch reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday, May 31, 2025, and will be buried later today in line with Islamic rites. Oba Adewale was the 19th ruler of the Epe Kingdom.

Confirming the development to PUNCH Online, High Chief Odedeogboro Balogun of Epe Kingdom, Musiliu Adeniyi, said, “The news is true. It was this morning. He will be buried 4’O clock today.”

Before ascending the throne, Oba Adewale held key traditional titles, including Otun-Balogun and Balogun—positions that placed him among the kingdom’s highest-ranking chiefs. His rise through the ranks reflected deep-rooted respect and leadership within the Epe traditional council, ultimately leading to his coronation as king. His passing marks the end of a significant era in the kingdom’s history.
