Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun is grappling with severe health challenges linked to a past kidney transplant, operating with a single kidney amid mounting pressure to resign. Sources reveal he now works limited hours at Force Headquarters, arriving around 1 p.m. and relying on a “makeshift clinic at his residence” for nighttime operations 12. His planned UK trip for medical care and a security conference was blocked by President Tinubu in March 2025, fueling speculation about his tenure’s stability

IGP Egbetokun’s health crisis has intensified as President Tinubu denied his request to attend a London security conference, which included critical medical consultations. “Tinubu is under immense pressure to replace Egbetokun,” a source disclosed, noting the IGP’s “single kidney” condition and reduced office hours 17. Deputy IG Idegwu Basil Okuoma is reportedly being groomed as a successor, while internal discontent grows over alleged leadership failures.
