Four Nigerian stowaways thrown into Atlantic Ocean by ship crew

The young men, seeking to escape Nigeria’s economic challenges, had boarded the ship in secret with hopes of reaching foreign shores.

Four Nigerian stowaways were rescued in the Atlantic Ocean after being thrown overboard by the crew of a foreign vessel. The young men—James John, Favour Efe, Kingsley Williams, and Kingsley Mathew—had secretly boarded the ship in search of better opportunities abroad. The crew allegedly reacted violently upon discovering them, casting them into open waters.

Their survival came through the swift intervention of a maritime logistics company owned by France-based Nigerian mogul Harrison Niyi Alonge. “Acting on their report, Alonge ordered an immediate emergency operation, which led to the rescue of the four victims,” said Olawale Ezekiel, the company’s PRO. “They were clinging to debris, weak and barely able to call for help.”

The rescued men are now in stable condition and have been handed over to the Nigerian Navy at Atlas Cove, Takwa Bay. The incident highlights Nigeria’s deepening migration crisis, driven by economic hardship and insecurity.
