“When this happened, my first reaction is to resign, but people advised me that the students will never forgive you because it will look like you have abandoned them at such a time.”
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has revealed he considered resigning over the technical glitches that marred the 2025 UTME in parts of the South-East and Lagos.
“When this happened, my first reaction is to resign, but people advised me that the students will never forgive you because it will look like you have abandoned them at such a time,” he said at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja.
Oloyede announced a mop-up exam for candidates affected by glitches or who missed the initial UTME, affirming the board’s commitment to fairness.
He dismissed allegations of a conspiracy targeting the South-East, saying: “There is nothing to say north, south… I did not throw them under the bus.”
Oloyede also addressed the emotional toll of the crisis, including the suicide of a candidate, calling for a minute of silence in her honour.
He emphasised that criticisms were largely due to misinformation and urged against ethnic profiling in education.
