A 16-year-old Nigerian, Emmanuel Familola, has been confirmed dead after drowning in a river in the Buncrana community of Ireland.

A 16-year-old Nigerian, Emmanuel Familola, has drowned while swimming in a river in the Buncrana community, County Donegal, Ireland. According to Raidió Teilifís Éireann, the tragedy occurred on Saturday, May 10, when Emmanuel and two others encountered difficulties while swimming in Lough Swilly. “The body of a teenager has been recovered from waters off the coast of Co Donegal… between Ned’s Point and Fahan,” the report stated. His remains were moved to Letterkenny University Hospital after an extensive air and sea rescue mission.

The alarm was raised at around 4 p.m. after witnesses saw the teenagers struggle in the water. One managed to swim ashore, while another was rescued and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Meanwhile, Donegal MP Padraig Mac Lochlainn has launched a GoFundMe campaign to support funeral arrangements for the deceased. The incident has sparked an outpouring of grief and support within the Irish-Nigerian community.
