Of the 148 results presented, only six were genuine, while the remaining 142 were found to be fraudulent after routine verification.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that 96% of A-level results submitted for Direct Entry admission at Bayero University, Kano (BUK) in 2024 were forged.
Of the 148 results presented, only six were genuine, while the remaining 142 were found to be fraudulent after routine verification.
JAMB has urged tertiary institutions to independently verify all submitted documents to prevent fraudulent admissions. It highlighted the Nigeria Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System (NIPEDS), introduced two years ago, as a key tool in detecting fake A-level certificates, including those from foreign institutions.
The board has flagged an additional 13 fake certificates, some of which were used to secure admissions. Individuals implicated have been handed over to law enforcement agencies.
“Institutions must not solely rely on NIPEDS; they should conduct their own verifications,” JAMB stated, emphasizing its commitment to eliminating fraud in the admission process.
