Billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates announced plans to donate nearly all of his $200 billion fortune, leaving only one per cent for his family. In a post on his blog, Gates revealed that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, one of the world’s largest charitable organizations, will close by December 31, 2045.
“People will say a lot of things about me when I die, but I am determined that ‘he died rich’ will not be one of them,” he stated. Gates intends to give away 99% of his wealth over the next 20 years to support global health, education, and poverty alleviation.
Reflecting on the foundation’s achievements, Gates highlighted its impact, including saving 80 million lives through initiatives like Gavi and the Global Fund. Despite some criticism, Gates remained firm in his decision, explaining that the accelerated timeline aligns with the foundation’s goals.
