Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed the policy on May 2, emphasizing, “Whenever the government catches non-U.S. citizens breaking our laws, we will take action to revoke their status.” This policy follows Rubio’s April 30 announcement, which suggests action will be taken against those convicted of criminal activities such as domestic violence or assault.
However, the policy does not specify which offenses will lead to visa revocation, raising concerns about its implementation. Critics, like David Bier of the Cato Institute, call the policy “absurd” and a threat to the country’s appeal to skilled immigrants.
