Technology advisor at TMB Tech, Akin Ibitoye, has issued a stern warning to Nigerians about the health and safety risks of sleeping with mobile devices under their pillows or beside their beds.
Technology advisor Akin Ibitoye has cautioned Nigerians against sleeping with mobile devices under pillows or near beds, citing serious health and safety risks. Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, Ibitoye highlighted dangers including disrupted sleep patterns from blue light emissions and potential battery explosions. “Doomscrolling”—the habit of endlessly browsing social media—also worsens sleep quality and mental health, he noted.
Ibitoye emphasized that phones interfere with the body’s circadian rhythm, leading to irritability and long-term health issues. “When you don’t get enough sleep, medical practitioners warn of negative impacts,” he said. The warning comes amid growing concerns over excessive screen time and device-related hazards in households nationwide.
