While the EFCC acknowledged detaining VDM and his associate, Mrs. Otse remains missing.
The legal team of social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has raised concern over the disappearance of his mother, Mrs. Blessing Otse, following his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on May 2, 2025.
According to Deji Adeyanju & Partners, Otse and associate Steven Avuara were detained by EFCC operatives after exiting GTBank, Area 3, Abuja, where they had gone to inquire about unauthorized deductions from Mrs. Otse’s account.
“Following the conclusion of the inquiries, they attempted to exit the building, but were locked in the bank’s security door for over five minutes,” read a statement by lawyer Zainab M. Otega.
They were later “accosted at gunpoint… beaten and blindfolded.”
While the EFCC acknowledged detaining Otse and Avuara, Mrs. Otse remains missing.
“The EFCC’s refusal to disclose allegations or account for Mrs. Otse is troubling,” the firm stated, describing the incident as a breach of constitutional rights.
