Felix Rojas, 44, was arrested for allegedly raping a dead man aboard a New York City subway train.
The incident occurred on April 9, when Rojas boarded the R train at Whitehall Street-South Ferry station around 11pm and, after roughly 45 minutes, encountered an unconscious man, according to the NYPD.
An internal NYPD document obtained by The New York Times states that Rojas went through the man’s pockets and then allegedly had sex with the corpse. He fled the scene, which was captured on CCTV.
The victim, identified as Jorge Gonzalez, 37, had boarded the train around 8pm and died of natural causes, officials said. Rojas, who had no prior criminal record, turned himself in and was arrested Sunday night. He has been charged with first-degree rape and was expected to be arraigned Monday.
“It’s horrifying,” said Angie Sofikitis, a former neighbor, adding that Rojas once lived nearby and attended church with his family.
