The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria has announced the launch of its maiden Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for school candidates, marking a significant shift in test administration. Amos Dangut, Head of WAEC Nigeria, disclosed that the 2025 examination, scheduled from April 24 to June 20, will feature enhanced security measures, including unique questions per candidate for select subjects. “This initiative upholds academic integrity and aligns with the Federal Ministry of Education’s vision,” he said during a briefing in Lagos. A total of 1,973,253 candidates from 23,554 schools—49.63% males and 50.37% females—will sit for the exam, supervised by 26,000 teachers.
Dangut acknowledged security concerns but assured collaboration with the Nigeria Police and state governments to ensure a smooth process. “Last year, we faced threats in one geopolitical zone, but the situation was controlled,” he stated. The council’s adoption of ICT aims to modernize assessments while addressing malpractice risks. The increase in female candidates reflects growing participation, with registrations up by 158,627 compared to 2024.
