It’s about justice, not settlement” — Senator Natasha insists Akpabio must face probe

“Out-of-court settlement? To settle how? Who? What about how I felt? I am not looking for an out-of-court settlement.”

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has rejected a proposed out-of-court settlement in her case against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, insisting that he must face a formal investigation.

Legal luminary Dr Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), counsel to Akpabio, had urged Akpoti-Uduaghan to provide more evidence for her allegations and consider a resolution.

But speaking with The Nation, the senator said, “Out-of-court settlement? To settle how? Who? What about how I felt? I am not looking for an out-of-court settlement.”

She added: “It is not about settlement, it is about justice. He should subject himself to an investigation. Akpabio’s actions are sending a negative signal on President Tinubu’s government.”

Agbakoba, while calling for fair and dignified handling of the matter, stressed the need for “substantial evidence” and criticised contradictions in Akpoti-Uduaghan’s timeline and statements.

He said: “Allegations, however serious, must be scrutinised with diligence and care to avoid situations where they are being weaponised for vendetta.”
