“No Biafran youth ought to position themselves as instruments for the Federal Government, ECOWAS, and Western imperialists,” it added.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has warned South-East youths to shun the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment, citing alleged ethnic bias and exposure to terrorist threats.
In a statement on Tuesday, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful claimed that Igbo soldiers are often sent to volatile northern regions where they become “victims of Boko Haram violence and other terrorist acts.”
“We urge Biafran youths to refrain from joining the Nigerian Army… numerous individuals have fallen victim,” the group stated.
IPOB alleged that southern soldiers are exploited in a system that compensates terrorists while neglecting troops.
“No Biafran youth ought to position themselves as instruments for the Federal Government, ECOWAS, and Western imperialists,” it added.
The group advised young people to return to traditional vocations like farming, warning, “Your name will be regrettable… you will either be killed, captured, or sacrificed.”
Emma Powerful concluded by urging Igbo youths to “consider the fate of brave individuals who enlisted since 2020… many are gone or jailed.”
