Former President Olusegun Obasanjo held a closed-door meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde, former Governor Kayode Fayemi and former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola in Abeokuta, fueling speculation about political alliances ahead of the 2027 general election.

The political consultation train is picking up speed, and Obasanjo’s Abeokuta residence was the latest stop.

According to PM News, former President Olusegun Obasanjo met on Monday with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, and former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola in a closed-door session that has quickly become the talk of political circles. The gathering comes amid intensifying realignments and speculation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

No details of the discussion were officially disclosed, but Makinde offered a glimpse via a post on his official social media page. “Earlier today, we visited Baba, His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR in Abeokuta. Our discussions centred on important national issues in view of the upcoming general election,” he wrote. “We appreciate Baba for his wise counsel at this crucial time in our nation’s history.”

The meeting has drawn particular attention because of who was in the room. Makinde, now the presidential flagbearer of the All Progressives Movement (APM), has been a central name in ongoing opposition realignment talk. Fayemi, a former Nigeria Governors’ Forum chairman and prominent APC figure, remains an influential national voice, while Oyinlola continues to be a fixture in political consultations across party lines.

As for Obasanjo, no longer holding elective office hasn’t dimmed his political weight — he remains one of Nigeria’s most sought-after statesmen, regularly consulted by leaders across the political divide, especially during election cycles.
