US Mission in Nigeria warns dual nationals to travel with US passports

VIA US MISSION IN NIGERIA ON X:

The US Mission in Nigeria has reminded US citizens, including dual nationals, that they are required to enter and exit the United States on a valid US passport, warning that ESTA applications using foreign passports will likely be denied.

US Mission Warns Dual Nationals to Travel With US Passport

Dual citizens, take note. According to the US Mission in Nigeria, all US citizens — including dual nationals and children — are required to enter and depart the United States using a valid US passport, not a foreign one.

The mission warned that dual national US citizens cannot use their foreign passport to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ESTA), noting that the Department of Homeland Security routinely denies or cancels such applications for dual nationals.

US citizens living abroad planning to travel home were urged to ensure their US passport is valid before their trip, and to renew early if it has expired or is expiring soon, since many countries also require at least six months’ passport validity.
