Nigerian sprinter Godson Brume has been sentenced to 27 months in US prison for firearm possession while on a non-immigrant visa.

Nigerian sprinter Godson Brume has been sentenced to 27 months in prison in the United States for possessing a firearm while on a non-immigrant visa, TheCable reports.
According to the US Department of Justice, the 23-year-old athlete is also subject to deportation after serving his jail term.
Brume, who was in the US on an F-1 student visa, pleaded guilty in December 2025. He admitted possessing and discharging a Glock 43X 9mm pistol during an altercation with an ex-girlfriend at his apartment in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on February 7, 2025.
TheCable reports that Brume, younger brother of long jumper Ese Brume, won silver for Nigeria in the men’s 4x100m relay at the 2024 African Athletics Championships.
