Court Unveils Election Case Rules

The Federal High Court has rolled out fresh rules to guide pre-election disputes as Nigeria gears up for the 2027 polls.

According to a report by Daily Post, the Federal High Court (Pre-Election) Practice Directions, 2026, were approved by Chief Judge Justice John Terhemba Tsoho to ensure speedy, efficient and fair determination of election-related cases. A statement signed by the court’s Director of Information, Dr. Catherine Oby Christopher, said the guidelines align with the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026 and other applicable laws.

The court confirmed the new Practice Directions formally repeal the 2022 version, becoming the governing framework for all pre-election matters before it. It urged lawyers, political parties, litigants and the public to familiarise themselves with the new rules.
