Kebbi South Senator Garba Maidoki has accused President Bola Tinubu of politicising the proposed state police bill ahead of the 2027 election, citing its rushed timing and lack of consultation.
Trouble is brewing over the state police bill. Kebbi South Senator Garba Maidoki has accused President Bola Tinubu of politicising the initiative ahead of the 2027 presidential election, speaking on Channels Television.
Maidoki said lawmakers got the 146-page bill just a day before deliberations, leaving no real room for scrutiny or consultation with constituents and legal experts, Peoples Gazette reports.
He questioned why the administration waited this long into its tenure to push such a major security reform — if tackling insecurity was truly the priority all along.
Maidoki says he’ll oppose the bill on principle, insisting its timing smells of political calculation. Still, he predicts it’ll sail through the National Assembly anyway.
