US jails Nigerian man five years over $3.5m romance fraud

A US court has sentenced Nigerian national Franklin Ikechukwu Nwadialo to five years in prison for running a 15-year romance scam that defrauded victims, many of them widows and divorcees, of more than $3.5 million.

He preyed on broken hearts for 15 years — now he’s paying for it. A US court has sentenced Nigerian national Franklin Ikechukwu Nwadialo, 42, to five years in prison for masterminding a romance scam that fleeced victims of over $3.5 million, Punch Newspapers reports.

Nwadialo used fake identities on dating platforms like Match, Zoosk and Christian Café to lure victims, mostly widows and divorcees, into fraudulent relationships, before milking them for fabricated emergencies and fake investments.

The US District Court in Tacoma heard some victims lost life savings, homes, and suffered deep emotional trauma. The FBI called it calculated exploitation of people simply searching for companionship online.
