Lagos security operative Adebanjo Samuel has been hailed as a hero and will receive a formal civic reception after returning $9,100 he found while on duty at a First City Monument Bank branch in Marina.
THE MOST HONEST MAN IN LAGOS
When nobody was watching, Adebanjo Samuel did the right thing anyway.
The Proton Security Service operative was on duty at a First City Monument Bank branch in Marina, Lagos on May 25, 2026, when a customer accidentally left behind $9,100 — roughly N14 million. He didn’t hesitate. He returned every kobo, per Punch.
His company has since confirmed the incident and announced plans to host a special civic reception in his honour, bringing together colleagues, family, industry stakeholders and media to celebrate what they called a remarkable act of honesty.
Adebanjo himself was characteristically humble about it.
“It is not about the amount; it is about the principle. I was raised to be truthful and to do what is right irrespective of the circumstances. Even if the money had been much more, I would still have returned it,” he said.
Proton Security MD Odebunmi Adekunmi called it “a proud moment” for the organisation. “Adebanjo has demonstrated that professionalism extends beyond carrying out assigned duties; it also involves making the right decisions when no one is watching,” he said.
Director of Business Development Olabisi Familusi went further, arguing the act carries national significance: “This symbolic act is capable of inspiring trust in Nigeria globally and sending the right message to young Nigerians that integrity pays.”
In a world obsessed with shortcuts, Adebanjo Samuel took the long road.
And Nigeria noticed.
