Leading opposition figures including Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, Seyi Makinde and Peter Obi have taken decisive steps toward the 2027 presidential election, with multiple form submissions and formal declarations against President Tinubu.
According to Vanguard, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi have submitted their presidential nomination forms to the African Democratic Congress, while Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde formally declared his candidacy under a PDP-Allied Peoples’ Movement alliance.
Amaechi blamed the current administration for Nigeria’s economic hardship, saying: “It is Emilokan that brought us here. It is ‘our turn’ that brought us here. It is the turn of Nigerians, because you see, there is no market for Christians, neither is there a market for Muslims, or a market for Northerners or Southerners. The market has only one purpose, the forex. And what is forex? Naira. Nigerians are suffering.”
Former Anambra Governor Peter Obi vowed: “I want to be a one-term president because of stability. I will not stay a day longer than four years, even with a gun to my head.”
Makinde declared: “I, Oluseyi Makinde, formally announce my candidacy for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
