US Map Blunder at AIDS Conference
The U.S. State Department showcased an AI-generated map at the 26th International AIDS Conference in Brazil, mislabeling Nigeria and other African countries. Nigeria appeared as a landlocked nation in the Sahara Desert, while Mozambique and Côte d’Ivoire were also incorrectly placed. The error, which quickly went viral online, led the State Department to accept full responsibility, citing a rushed modification by a staff member. OpenAI is investigating its tool’s involvement.
