US could cripple Iran’s power grid in one hour — Trump

US President Donald Trump says the United States could destroy Iran’s electricity infrastructure within an hour but has chosen not to do so despite the ongoing conflict.

Donald Trump has said the United States has the capability to cripple Iran’s electricity infrastructure within an hour but has deliberately chosen not to take such action. Trump made the remark on Wednesday while speaking with journalists at Joint Base Andrews after returning from a trip to Kentucky.

According to the US president, Washington possesses the military capacity to destroy Iran’s power grid but has avoided doing so because of the severe and long-term damage such strikes could cause. “We could take apart their electric capacity within one hour, and it would take them 25 years to rebuild it. We won’t do that,” Trump said.

He added that the main goal of the US was to ensure Iran cannot rebuild its military strength amid the ongoing conflict. “The main thing is we have to win this… We don’t want to let it regrow,” Trump said, claiming American forces had already weakened Iran’s military capabilities, including its naval operations. Trump also noted that US forces were closely monitoring strategic areas such as the Strait of Hormuz while continuing operations to prevent Iran from rebuilding its defence systems.
