EFCC raises alarm over rising hypertension cases among Nigerian youths

The EFCC Clinic has flagged a worrying rise in hypertension and diabetes cases among young Nigerians, once considered diseases of old age.

Young Nigerians are increasingly being diagnosed with hypertension and diabetes, according to EFCC medical doctor Marvellous Idemudia. Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), she said conditions once linked mainly to older adults are now showing up more frequently in younger patients.

Idemudia blamed the trend on unhealthy diets, chronic stress, physical inactivity and poor health habits, warning that delayed diagnosis could deepen Nigeria’s non-communicable disease burden.

Peoples Gazette reports she urged young people to get regular blood pressure and blood sugar checks, embrace healthier lifestyles and manage stress better. Idemudia also called on government, employers and community leaders to step up public awareness campaigns targeting hypertension and diabetes prevention.
