Nigeria’s top lenders are holding firm on physical banking, expanding branch networks even as digital adoption soars.
Physical banking remains a core strategy for Nigerian banks despite the rise of digital channels, according to Nairametrics Research.
The 10 largest banks by branch network in 2026 are:
- Access Bank – 772 branches.
- FirstBank – 653 branches.
- Zenith Bank – 501 branches.
- United Bank for Africa (UBA) – 419 branches.
- Union Bank – 316 branches.
- Fidelity Bank – 255 branches.
- FCMB – 240 branches.
- Wema Bank – 170 branches.
- Sterling Bank – 169 branches.
- Polaris Bank – 141 branches.
The ranking, compiled from 2025 annual reports, investor presentations and branch locator data, shows banks are prioritising nationwide access and financial inclusion alongside digital growth, Nairametrics reported.
