Nigeria’s First Lady is leading by example when it comes to growing your own food.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu has harvested fresh vegetables from her garden at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, renewing her call on Nigerians to grow food at home to support food security.

According to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on X on Tuesday, as reported by Tribune, the First Lady visited the garden on Monday for another harvest from the vegetable plot established about two years ago under the Every Home A Garden initiative.

The garden produced vegetables including spinach, waterleaf and fluted pumpkin.

After harvesting the produce, Tinubu shared part of it with members of her staff, while also reminding Nigerians of the importance of showing compassion by giving to others.

The First Lady unveiled the Villa vegetable garden in July 2024 under her Renewed Hope Initiative, aimed at encouraging household farming and improving food security amid rising food prices. The initiative was launched alongside the Every Home A Garden competition, designed to encourage women and families across the country to grow vegetables in their own homes.

At the launch, Tinubu said the garden was intended to demonstrate that even small household spaces could be used to grow nutritious food while cutting down the cost of feeding.
