The Nigeria Football Federation is set to review coaching appointments for its youth national teams, while retaining Eric Chelle as head coach of the Super Eagles.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Committee is preparing to discuss new coaching appointments for several national teams, including the U-20 Flying Eagles, U-17 Golden Eaglets, and U-17 women’s Flamingos, The Guardian has reported. Eric Chelle is expected to remain as the head coach of the Super Eagles, while other teams are being considered for leadership changes as the current coaching staff have completed their respective campaigns.
Coach Manu Garba failed to qualify the Golden Eaglets for the U-17 AFCON after losing in the WAFU B qualifiers. Meanwhile, Coach Aliyu Zubairu led the Flying Eagles to the Round of 16 at the 2025 U-20 World Cup in Chile, while Coach Bankole Olowokere did not meet expectations with the Flamingos. The NFF Technical Committee is evaluating these performances as it prepares to decide whether new appointments are needed for the youth teams.
A member of the NFF Technical Committee said: “Other coaches need a chance to show what they can do. Some of these coaches have spent too long in the national teams.” The comment reflects the federation’s approach to providing opportunities for fresh leadership and enhancing performance across its youth squads.
