A three-storey shopping complex has collapsed in the Alakija area of Lagos, killing one person and leaving rescuers racing to free others still trapped.
Emergency responders are racing against time after a three-storey shopping complex collapsed in the Alakija area of Lagos State on Thursday, leaving one person dead and at least 10 others rescued.
The building, located on Old Ojo Road near Alakija Bus Stop in Satellite Town, came down around 11:40 a.m., triggering a large-scale operation involving the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
LASEMA confirmed one deceased adult male was recovered, while teams used heavy-duty equipment, including an excavator, to search the rubble. Ten survivors with varying injuries have been handed over to medical personnel.
Officials urged residents to steer clear as operations continue. The cause of the collapse remains unknown.
