Key figures in Oyo State politics have denied allegations of an impeachment plot against Governor Seyi Makinde, as conflicting claims and political tensions continue to unfold.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and Florence Ajimobi have denied allegations of inducing lawmakers to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde. The claims emerged after reports that Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin was approached with offers linked to political ambitions. Lawmakers, including Chief Whip Gbenga Oyekola, distanced themselves, with Oyekola stating, “I was never invited, never consulted, and was not part of any such meetings or arrangements.”
The Olubadan, through his aide, dismissed the claims as false, saying, “Don’t drag the Olubadan throne into dirty politics.” Ajimobi also rejected the allegations, describing them as “entirely false, baseless, and a deliberate act of disinformation.” Ogundoyin denied receiving money, adding, “No money exchanged hands at any meeting,” and reaffirmed loyalty to Makinde and the Peoples Democratic Party.
Political tensions deepened as conflicting claims emerged, with some lawmakers alleging external interference, while the All Progressives Congress dismissed the impeachment narrative as “a badly written script.” Former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose insisted on a separate plot against the monarch, stating, “I stand by everything I have said.” The Olubadan assured the dispute would be resolved internally, saying, “We will resolve it amicably.”
