UK-based Nigerian lawyer Baron Chymaker says he has formally submitted his application to renounce his Nigerian citizenship to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Chymaker disclosed the development in a post on X on Thursday, saying his lawyer in Nigeria confirmed the application had been submitted along with the required fees, according to Punch. “I cannot wait for the approval,” he wrote.
Chymaker is known for his commentary on international law and Nigerian legal practice, and has previously criticised Nigeria’s reliance on judicial precedent, particularly in election tribunal cases. He has also urged Nigerian-trained lawyers to seek opportunities abroad.
As of the time of this report, the SGF’s office had not commented on the application.
